Swift Silver Mine Festival

Labor Day takes on a whole new meaning when you can celebrate it at the mythological Swift Silver Mine whose exact location is a matter of folklore. Although the festival centers around family food, such as burgers, fresh-fried donuts and music ranging from country to folk, one of the best features is the scenery. During the fall, at the edge of the Appalachian Mountains, scenic piers look out over the hillside so beautiful and wide-ranging that it is a popular time and place to get married.

Powell County Fair

The Powell County Fair attracts thousands of people across a week of rides, fair food, and music. Other highlights include local farmer's market fare as well as handcrafted arts, such as woodworking and jewelry. Finally, the fair closes in smash-up glory as everyone has the opportunity to wildly root for their favorite car in the demolition derby.

Stanton Pumpkin Festival

For one day only, this festival fills the streets of Stanton Kentucky. Arts and crafts booths will line the street alongside food vendors offering a variety of traditional and non-tradition fair food. Festival contests include scarecrow decorating and pumpkin pie baking, and families can revel in the dancing of the children in annual dance routines. Live entertainment includes country and folk singers.

Rocktoberfest

Rocktoberfest is another Red River Gorge festival filled with music, food, and camping. In fact, the name, itself, stems from the popular rock-climbing contest where entrants display near superhuman vertical feats of strength and climbing prowess as they scale the heights of Red River Gorge. Following the climbing competition on Saturday, aspiring climbers can avail themselves of the expertise of climbers via the climbing clinic.
