Mountain Mushroom Festival

The Mountain Mushroom Festival is one of the premier events for mushroom lovers. Non-mushroom events include both car and gem shows. In terms of the gem show, rock collectors can fawn over glistening agates and multi-colored geodes. For art fans, the art and craft show showcases the talents of local and regional artists and craftspeople, and the pieces range from watercolors and oil paintings to quilts and woodworking.

Of course, the festival would not be named after mushrooms if its primary focus were not on one of the tastiest fungi in the country: the much sought-after morel. The festival does not simply focus on morel-based food dishes, which abound in the market. Instead, the festival is focused on mushroom hunting with mushroom lovers able to scour the countryside in search of morsels that can reach the size of over a foot in length–what a mouthful! Finally, to work off some of those delicious calories, visitors are encouraged to take part in the 5K fun(gus) run.
